The Old Thatch began life in the 17th century as part of the gatehouse for the Uddens estate. Located opposite Stapehill Abbey, the building has witnessed centuries of change. Despite modern additions, the pub has retained its character through leaded windows, timber beams, and brick fireplaces that continue to draw in those looking for a traditional setting.
Transformation and Revival
In 2018, the pub was taken over by landlord Nick Pestana. Three years later, he partnered with award-winning restaurateur Andy Lennox to reimagine The Old Thatch. Their collaboration has seen the pub develop into a respected gastro pub while maintaining its place as a community hub.
Today, the menu combines traditional pub fare with more refined dishes, offering gourmet burgers, locally sourced steaks, seasonal specials, and Sunday roasts. Alongside the food, the bar serves Dorset ales, craft beers, and an extensive selection of wines and spirits.
The Country Store and Bakery
One of the unique features introduced during its revival has been the country store and bakery. Locals can purchase freshly baked bread, cakes, cheeses, and dairy products, ensuring that the pub plays an active role in the daily life of the community.
